TRANSITION TO TEACHING PROGRAMS (T2T)


Trine University’s Transition to Teaching (T2T) elementary and secondary programs are described here. The programs are for individuals who have completed degrees in fields other than teacher education. An application for the T2T program may be submitted when all prerequisites are met.

Trine University offers the following approved undergraduate teacher preparation programs: elementary education (K-6), health/physical education (K-12), mathematics education (5-12, 9-12), life science (biology) education (5-12, 9-12), chemistry education (5-12, 9-12), physics education (5-12, 9-12), and social studies education
(5-12, 9-12). The T2T option is offered for all programs except health/ physical education (K-12).

The T2T elementary program includes 24 semester hours of coursework and field experiences spread over three semesters. The secondary T2T program includes
18 semester hours of coursework and field experiences spread over three semesters. The table below describes generally how courses are distributed. Semester hours are indicated for Spring 1, Fall 2, and Spring 2.

ENTRANCE REQUIREMENT SUMMARY

Minimum requirements for admission, as described by Indiana law, include:
1. A baccalaureate degree with an overall grade point average of at least 3.000, both in a major and overall; or
2. A baccalaureate degree with a grade point average of at least 2.500, both in a major and overall, and five (5) years of professional experience; or
3. A graduate degree in the subject you will teach (secondary).

CREDIT OPTIONS

It is possible to test out of courses.  Those options are described in the Trine University Course Catalog 2008-2010.

Course release for university–level knowledge acquired in non–university settings is possible. The T2T coordinator may be contacted for information about the procedures to follow.

T2T SUMMER 1
1. Submit transcript(s) for evaluation (may be unofficial until time of admission)
2. Meet with T2T contact to discuss next steps, develop plan

T2T FALL 1
1. Pass Praxis I - reading, writing, mathematics (State of Indiana passing scores)
2. Complete all requirements for Admission to Teacher Education
3. Pass the Benchmark #1 panel interview
4. Establish a TaskStream account
5. Complete assessment of prior learning as needed (with content faculty, with EDU faculty)
6. Meet general education course requirements as needed (maintain required GPA)
7. Meet content course requirements as needed (maintain required GPA)
