Honors Program

Sometimes students need more. Greater challenge, deeper discussions. Trine University enriches your classroom experience through our Honors Program. You’ll explore in-depth topics in your major and other areas of interest with students who seek greater academic challenge.

Benefits
Honors students develop a close-knit group of friends within the program. Besides attending classes together, honors students attend social events sponsored by the program and are eligible to live in the apartment-style Honor’s Residence. Other great benefits include priority registration and special recognition at graduation.

Competitive scholarships
Trine offers more than 40 scholarships that grant students automatic admission to the Honors Program, as long as students meet the following minimum requirements:

First year requirements:

  • A minimum SAT 1220 (R+M)/ACT 27
  • High school GPA of 3.75 or higher

Students who meet these criteria but do not receive a competitive scholarship will be admitted as space allows. The Honors Program director reviews freshman credentials and makes recommendations for final approval to the Honors Program Advisory Board.

Graduate with honors
The Honors Program offers four components that students must successfully complete, while maintaining a GPA of 3.50, in order to graduate from the program. The areas include:

  • The Introduction to Honors Seminar (HNR 101)
  • Honors courses or contract courses
  • Enrichment experiences
  • Honors thesis
