Meet Marek Kolar

Professor Marek Kolar

Marek Kolar is a finance professor in the department of business administration in the Ketner School of Business. He makes economics an important aspect of all of his classes.

I moved to Angola in July 2009 together with my wife, Erin, and our dog, Lucky. Shortly after moving here, we had a daughter, Mikaela, and our son Evan was born in the fall of 2011.

When I′m not in my office or in the classroom, I′m playing tennis and working as an assistant tennis coach. My wife also gives tennis lessons. I also enjoy playing or watching soccer. I also spend time at the Kappa Sigma house helping the fraternity brothers succeed in life. When I have time, sometimes I″ll watch a movie with the guys.

In the summer, my family and I return to my home in the Czech Republic to visit family and friends.

Having grown up in communist Czechoslovakia, I refuse to ever give up on defending capitalism and free markets. I enjoy Trine the most when I hear news from my students on their new internships and job offers.

The single most important characteristic I would like to see in my students is not to take anything or anyone at face value. Instead, I hope to help them educate themselves enough so that they can make up their own minds.
