Civil Engineering - Now more important than ever!
Particularly at this time, civil engineering is an exciting and challenging career. The profession of civil engineering is becoming even more critical than at any other time in our nation's history as our society tackles the ever increasing demands on our infrastructure and security. Civil engineers have shaped our country and communities in the past and continue to do so today. Our nation's infrastructure includes our public utility systems; our transportation systems, including the interstate highways; and the maintenance and repair of our airports, schools, and government facilities. Civil engineers are actively involved in designing buildings to withstand threats from those who would attack our safety and freedom. There has never been a more exciting time to become a civil engineering student. Trine University civil engineering students have enjoyed a job placement of 95-100 percent over the last 10 years.

We can structure a program for you to coincide with your specific area of interest in the civil engineering field. Our curriculum includes elective courses in the following areas: environmental engineering, geotechnical engineering, hydraulic engineering, and structural engineering. In addition, we offer a minor in environmental engineering and architectural engineering.
Our commitment to our students is to provide a first-class civil engineering education. With a degree from Trine, students will be well-prepared to "make their mark" in this rewarding field. They will be part of a profession that prides itself on enhancing the welfare of humanity. There is no better feeling than being able to contribute to making the world a better place for everyone.
Experience
Fawick Hall, the engineering building at Trine University, has been completely renovated at a cost of $5 million. It houses the Reiners Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering to include classrooms, laboratories, and computer centers. Fawick Hall is just one of many beautiful, outstanding facilities on the campus in Angola. The recently completed $13.5 million Rick L. and Vicki L. James University Center is one of the most unique and modern facilities of its kind in the nation. Underclassmen enjoy living in new, very modern, brick villas recently constructed on campus. Students say it is just like having their own apartment on campus!
With a dedicated and highly motivated faculty, Trine University civil engineering students enjoy small classes and a 95 to 100 percent job placement after graduation. Students will never be taught by graduate assistants at Trine University. All classes are taught by faculty members whose first love is working with and teaching students. Neither will students ever be taught in large auditoriums at Trine University; the largest classrooms on campus are for a maximum of 30 students. All of the faculty have "real-world" experience, and almost all are registered professional engineers. Currently, the job market for civil engineers is rated as one of the best in the nation. Many Trine University graduates are now starting at salaries in the high $40,000 range. Trine University also offers very successful cooperative program opportunities for those students interested in working their way through college. Summer internship opportunities are also available to students to obtain "real-world" engineering experience during their summer break from classes.
There are five engineering laboratories and a student project room for students in civil engineering.
- Environmental Engineering Laboratory
- Kostyshak Materials Laboratory
- Hydraulic/Water Resources Laboratory
- Soil Mechanics Laboratory
- Computer Laboratory
- Guilford Student Project Laboratory
