Electrical Engineering—Meeting the Energy and Communications Needs of the Future

Explore

Almost every day we hear on the news:

  • How will we generate electricity from alternative sources?
  • How will electric motors be used to power future transport systems?
  • How can we make electric machines more efficient or the power grid meet the needs of an expanding population?
  • How can we make buildings and homes self-sufficient in electrical energy generation?
  • How can we bring power to remote locations?

We need engineers to address these questions about our ability to generate, distribute and efficiently use electrical energy. What about communications, controls and computing? How will the Internet evolve in the next decade? What’s the direction of the cellular phone industry, personal communications or home electronics?

You could be involved in the future development of these technologies because they all depend on electrical engineers. Electrical engineers design, develop, test and implement all of the systems mentioned above. These changing and expanding technologies are going to require educated and dedicated electrical engineers. You could be one of them.

Experience

We would like you to consider starting a career in electrical engineering at Trine University. In the electrical and computer engineering department at Trine, faculty are committed to undergraduate education.  We teach all classes, tutorial sessions and laboratories. The study of engineering requires both theoretical and practical work. We balance these by creating as many lab experiences as possible to complement classroom theoretical studies. Although we have mandatory scheduled laboratory sessions, we also allow students to spend time in the lab as fits their schedule.  This informal atmosphere is a consequence of our small, collegiate department. As faculty, our objective is to give you an excellent educational experience so you can have a rewarding engineering career.

Most of our students go to work in industry straight out of college, commanding excellent starting salaries. In fact, most of our students have a full-time jobs lined up before graduation. Recent first employers have included Sprint, ITT Aerospace, American Electric Power, BAE Systems, John Deere, and Cummins among the household name companies, but many more go to work for small regional companies and consultancies.  Our rigorous undergraduate degree program is well-respected among some of the most renowned graduate schools in the country. Some of our graduates go on to graduate school to pursue master’s or doctorates in electrical engineering. Whatever your aspirations are for a life in electrical engineering, let us help you make a start.

The electrical engineering program at Trine University is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, 111 Market Place, Suite 1050, Baltimore, MD 21202-4012, telephone: 410.347.7700.
