Elementary Education - Teaching the next generation

You want to teach because teaching matters. You remember an elementary teacher who made a difference in your life, and you want to have that same impact on many children’s lives. It is very rewarding to experience the excitement and challenges of working in elementary classrooms. Trine prepares elementary education students for licensure to teach in grades K-6.

Explore
In classes of 20 or fewer teacher education students, you will interact, collaborate, and learn strategies you will someday use as a teacher. The Franks School of Education faculty will guide you on campus and in area schools.

Experience
Hands-on learning begins your first year in Freshman Practicum. You observe students in lower elementary, upper elementary, middle school, high school, and alternative school classrooms. Each year, your involvement with children at field sites increases. You move from observing to assisting, and from teaching some lessons to teaching many lessons. Finally, your student teaching experience allows you assume all classroom responsibilities for an extended period of time.

Excel
Trine teacher education graduates enjoy tremendous success. They are currently passing the examinations required for licensure in Indiana at a rate of 100 percent. Many work in school districts throughout Indiana, Michigan and Ohio, while others are employed all over the United States, from California to Florida, and from Texas to North Carolina.

Accreditation
Trine University’s teacher education programs are accredited by the Indiana Department of Education/Office of Educator Licensing and Development. The Franks School of Education is accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education.
