Overview
Music is the movement of sound to reach the soul for the education of its virtue – Plato. Music is a fundamental element of society and as such permeates our lives. Nearly every human environment incorporates music to elicit an emotional, physical, or mnemonic response in the listener.

The Music Department at Trine University enables you to bring the art of music to the world through various areas of employment. We offer a wide range of academic and performance opportunities in the field of music where you can enhance your skills as a vocalist, instrumentalist, musicologist, and/or music theorist and pair them with a variety of university minors. To develop your performance skills Trine University offers wind ensemble, chamber orchestra, two choirs, two jazz bands and is one of only three private universities in Indiana offering marching band. Many small ensembles are also offered such as musical theatre/opera ensemble, percussion ensemble, and others.

Explore
Music and an Outside Minor will provide you with a unique opportunity of training in the areas of performance, musicology, music theory, and the outside field of your choice as it relates to music. The objective is to prepare you for professional employment and for graduate study in both the public and private sectors.

Experience
Music and an Outside Minor will give you the opportunity to pursue an education in music while giving you the additional education to utilize your love of music in professional areas in and outside the performance medium. The combination of music and an outside field of your choosing will prepare you for many careers in the field of the performing arts.

Excel
Music and an Outside Minor will provide you with the opportunity to gain a solid foundation of musicianship through a rigorous program of study. You will enhance your musical skills through private instruction and by performing in large and small ensembles.
