Welcome to Trine University!
Orientation
There will be an orientation session to welcome you and provide information before you begin spring semester. The orientation is designed to help students make the transition to their new home in Angola and our campus environment. The New International Student Orientation will begin on August 16th . Please make sure you arrive in Angola before orientation begins. New international students are allowed to move into the residence halls on August 15th.
Take Placement Tests
After you arrive you may have to take the English Placement test for ESL course and/or the Math Placement test to begin academic courses. The Office of International Services will arrange a time for you to take the tests during International Student Orientation.

-THINGS TO DO OFF CAMPUS-
Shopping
Transportation will be provided for the first week during Orientation for you to buy toiletries, etc. Most of the population in Angola relies on personal vehicles because there is very limited transportation. Please feel free to contact International Student Services for transportation down town. Options for local and out-of-town transportation also include:
- STAR: provides transportation in Steuben County from 8 to 4 pm, Monday though Friday. You must call and tell them your location for them to pick you up. The cost is $2 for each one-way trip within Angola City limits and $5 for each one-way trip outside Angola City limits. Call (260) 665-9856 for more information.
Bank Account
Open a bank account at one of the banks in the area. Make sure to take your passport, visa, and I-94 with you.
**Banks will be available on-campus during the New Student Orientation.
License
Obtain your Indiana State ID or driver's license. Either of these cards may be used for official identification when cashing checks or for official identification. Come to the Office of International Services for more information on how to obtain a driver's license.
Cell Phones
Many international students have said it is difficult to get a cell phone without a social security number. The best option is apply for a prepaid plan. Prepaid means you have to pay a fee (according to your rate-plan) a month in advance, and you can terminate the service any time you like. Plans range from $39.99 per month for 450 minutes to $69.99 per month for 650 minutes. Each plan has different options for weekend and night minutes. To get a prepaid phone, go to Wal-Mart on North Wayne.
Long Distance/International Phone Calls
A good way of avoiding high charges on your phone is to purchase a calling card. Cards are available at Meijer, Wal-Mart, and most convenient stores.
Another popular option to call long distance is through SKYPE. This is a software program that allows you to call anywhere around the world for significantly cheaper than what you would on a land line or cell phone. Go to www.skype.com for more information.
