Student Government

Our Mission:

Student Government works collaboratively with students and college administrators to create positive changes in the Trine University community.

What do you need in order to get involved?

  1. Complete an information sheet
  2. Email a statement of interest
  3. Email a photo
  4. Submit one letter of recommendation from a faculty or staff member to the Office of Student Services
  5. Submit a petition with 50 student name [ PDF ] to the Office of Student Services
  6. Participate in candidate presentations

Executive Board Member Positions:

Presentations – Wednesday Nov. 7 at 7 p.m. in Fabiani Theater. Electronic voting dates: immediately after presentations until Thursday, Nov. 8 at 11:50 p.m.

Senator Positions:

Presentations – Wednesday, Nov. 14 at 6 p.m. in Best Hall (meet in/by 221). Electronic Voting dates: Immediately after presentations until Thursday, Nov. 15 at 11:50 p.m.

  • 2 positions from each class (freshman, sophomore, junior)
  • 2 positions from each school (JSOAS, KSB, ASOET, FSOE)

Student Government at Trine University has worked for the past year to revise the Constitution and By-Laws to become a group that actively works to:

  • Represent the student body
  • Provide student feedback to administration
  • Coordinate and assist in the funding of the government and student organizations.
  • Foster an active and engaged membership within the campus and local communities.
  • Support the mission of Trine University

What are the benefits of getting involved?

Students involved in Student Government enhance time management, communication and organizational skills. Student leaders learn about the university, event planning, financial management, marketing and the value of teamwork in action

Responsibilites for each position:

President is charged with:

  • Call and preside over Student Senate meetings
  • Oversee Senate elections
  • Oversee all committee activities
  • Serve as liaison between the students and administration of Trine University
  • Perform other duties within the realm of the presidency when necessary
  • Creates Ad hoc committees when necessary and acts as ex officio member

Vice President is charged with:

  • Assume responsibilities of the President when he/she is unable to be present.
  • Co-Chair CAB, Oversight Committee.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the President or Senate.

Treasurer is charged with:

  • Maintain Student Government budget.
  • Co-Chair CAB, Finance Committee.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the President or Senate.

Secretary is charged with:

  • Maintain all official records of the Student Government.
  • Maintain appropriate records of student organizations, including attendance of Senators.
  • Take minutes of all Student Senate meetings and distribute to officers, advisers, and student senators.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the President or Senate.

Publicity director is charged with:

  • Maintain and distribute weekly CAB updates.
  • Enforce the publication of CAB approved events.
  • Chair CAB, Activities Committee
  • Act as service liaison between the CAB and the Senate Executive Board.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the President or Senate.

Senators are charged with:

  • Represent school body by working with administration to address student concerns.
  • Promote school spirit.
  • Promote and coordinate social activities for the campus community.
  • Coordinate and assist in the funding of the Government and student organizations.
  • Foster an active and engaged membership within the campus and local communities.
  • Support the mission of the University.
  • Meet with a predetermined number of students, as determined by the President, to survey students in determining the issues on campus.
