Tennis is more than a game to Bill.
B.S. Slippery Rock State University; M.S. University of Tennessee
I am Department of Sport and Hospitality Management chair, and have coached the Trine men and women′s tennis teams for the past 12 years. I have taught sport psychology, the history of sport, motor learning and classes in teaching pedagogy for physical education teachers.
Although I started teaching elementary physical education in Florida, I left that position to become a tennis professional. I received my United States Professional Tennis Association certification in 1978, and have served the organization for over 30 years. I was director of tennis at a Florida resort and at a number of indoor tennis clubs in Michigan.
While director of tennis at the Y Center of Battle Creek, I began my college coaching career in women′s tennis at nearby Albion College. I have been active in the Indiana Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance, and have presented at their convention on topics such as incorporating racket sports into a physical education curriculum. I also developed Shape Up Steuben, an annual fitness festival on campus. In its second year, it is a class project for departmental students.
