New fall programs coming
Major and minor to be added
June 21, 2010--Trine University will introduce a new business administration major and an international studies minor when the fall session begins Aug. 24.
While Trine offers the bachelor of science in business administration (BSBA) with majors in accounting, entrepreneurship, finance, golf management, management, marketing and sport management, the new BSBA major program will allow students to tailor a business administration program to their needs rather than specializing in a predetermined field.
Students in the new program will develop a plan of study under the guidance of an adviser, and must meet all of the general education and business core requirements of the BSBA. The new program will require the same number of credit hours and include advanced-level courses in business areas of the student’s greatest interest. It will support family or privately-owned businesses in which a breadth of perspective is needed.
The international studies minor will allow Trine graduates to enter the workforce and participate successfully in global discussions, events, markets and partnerships by understanding international imperatives and issues.
Students will learn to engage speakers of a foreign language in simple conversation; learn details about customs and cultures beyond the U.S.; develop knowledge, competence and skill in adapting practices to communicate with people in or from other cultures; demonstrate knowledge of being a global citizen; and express an interdisciplinary perspective on international issues.
Courses will focus on foreign language, with a choice of Chinese, French or Spanish; political, world and human geography; comparative government; and international business, economics and marketing.
“We are striving to expand the curricular opportunities for Trine University students to best prepare them for meaningful careers in tomorrow’s global economy,” said Trine Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. David Finley.
