Engineering Technology expands

SPS offering bachelor degree

 

August 6, 2010--Trine University’s School of Professional Studies (SPS) is expanding its engineering technology program to include a bachelor of science in engineering technology when the fall semester begins Aug. 30.

The expansion allows adult students completing the associate degree in engineering technology to move directly into the four-year bachelor degree program. Qualifying students with two-year technical degrees from Ivy Tech may also transfer into the Trine SPS engineering technology bachelor degree program.

Courses will include drawing, modeling and drafting; environmental health and safety; engineering and manufacturing systems; and product design and development, among others. A senior design project will pull together the engineering concepts into one defining undertaking that demonstrates the student’s technical knowledge.

The degree will provide competency in design, manufacturing, testing, technical sales and maintenance, and satisfy an industry demand for engineering technicians.

The Angola Adult Education Center plans an open house from 4-7 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 10 in its new office at 300 S. Darling St., in the northeast corner of Ford Hall. Prospective students and interested community members can attend to meet the Trine SPS dean and Angola Adult Education Center director, pick up literature about degree programs and learn more about how to enroll in the new engineering technology and other degrees.
