Fifth annual Scholarship Golf Classic
raises nearly $30k for Trine students
Fifty-six golfers compete in Florida
ANGOLA, Ind. – Trine University is focused on the Trine Student Scholarship Fund and hosted one event last week while the biggest event to benefit the fund – the 10th annual Black & White Scholarship Gala – is set for Saturday, Feb. 9.
Nearly $30,000 was raised Jan. 24 for the Scholarship Fund during the fifth annual Scholarship Golf Classic in Longboat Key, Fla.
Fifty-six golfers from as far away as California and Wisconsin competed for first and second place. Course competitions included longest drive, longest putt and closest to the pin.
After playing golf, Trine University trustees, alumni, friends, golfers and spouses attended a reception hosted by alumnus Steve LaHood and his wife Wendy, of Sarasota, Fla., at the Longboat Key Resort and Club Harbourside Clubhouse.
Premier sponsors for the golf classic included AMI Investment Management, Bon Appetite Management Co., the LaHoods, Metal Technologies, Inc. and Jim Ingledue Construction, Inc.
The golfers competed for first and second place. Winning first place with a score of 60, was a team of Kappa Sigmas and Alpha Sigma Phis with 1970 alums Keith Turner, Mike Galiyano, Al Haimbach and Darryl Shoff. Second place, with a score of 65, went to the team of Kappa Sigma Steve LaHood and Alpha Sigma Phi John Goudy, both 1970 graduates, and John Stock, a 1971 grad, and Jim Thomas, a guest of the team.
Golfers also participated in course competitions. Shoff won the longest drive; Joe Caccamo, a guest of 1959 alumnus Kenn Shelton, won the longest putt; and alumnus John Stock won closest to the pin.
