Trine promotes 7 faculty members


ANGOLA — Seven faculty members at Trine University will be promoted this fall, according to David Finley, Ph.D., vice president for academic affairs.

“With these promotions, Trine University recognizes the teaching acumen, service activities and scholarly contributions of these individuals,” Finley said. “Our quality faculty members truly enrich the living and learning environment on campus.”

Music director Mark Kays has been promoted from instructor to an assistant professor. Kays has been with the university since the music program’s inception in 2007. He directs the Marching Thunder, wind ensemble, pep and jazz bands and chamber orchestra. Kays earned his master’s degree from Indiana University.

 

Christina Zumbrun is being promoted from an instructor to an assistant professor in the Jannen School of Arts and Sciences. After teaching high school mathematics, English as a Second Language and GED classes, she ventured to Trine in 2006. Zumbrun earned her master’s degree in applied mathematics from Purdue University. She currently is pursuing her doctorate degree at Western Michigan University.

William Barry, Ph.D. has been promoted from assistant to associate professor in the Allen School of Engineering and Technology.  Before coming to Trine, Barry taught structural engineering courses and advised master’s and doctoral degree candidates at the Asian Institute of Technology in Thailand.  He earned his master’s degree from Stanford University and his doctorate degree from Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pa.

Karen Hamilton, Ph.D., has been promoted from assistant to associate professor in the Franks School of Education. She started her career as a high school English teacher and then moved into higher education. Hamilton earned her doctorate degree from the University of Toledo.

 

Haseeb Kazi, Ph.D., has been promoted from assistant to associate professor in the Jannen School of Arts and Sciences. He has been teaching math in the U.S. and internationally for 13 years. He received his doctorate degree from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale in 2006.

 

 

Kathleen Pomeroy has been promoted from assistant to associate professor. After more than 30 years of teaching in public schools, she joined Trine’s Franks School of Education faculty in 2004. She earned her master’s degree in education from Indiana University.

 

Sally Simpson, Ph.D., has been promoted from an associate to full professor. She joined Trine’s Franks School of Education faculty in 1995 following a career as a classroom teacher, district diagnostician, special education teacher, reading specialist and principal in the elementary schools of Glen Ellyn, Ill. Simpson earned her doctorate in reading education from Florida State University.
