Trine University president Earl D. Brooks II, Ph.D., accepts a generous gift from Steuben County Community Foundation president Jennifer Danic this week. The gift will go toward renovations at the T. Furth Center for Performing Arts, the former Angola Christian Church on Maumee Street.

Community Foundation grants $15,000 to Trine's Furth project

ANGOLA, Ind. – The Steuben County Community Foundation generously granted Trine University $15,000 toward the renovation and restoration of the T. Furth Center for Performing Arts.

“We look forward to the center being open so we can be a part of providing programming to Steuben County,” said community foundation president Jennifer Danic. “In the long-term, the community foundation hopes to support the center for community use for concerts, speakers and educational events.”

The university identified a need for an artistic outlet for northeast Indiana in 2006. Since then, the university has been working with community members to restore and renovate the former Angola Christian Church on Maumee Street, which will become the performing arts center and create an artistic venue, not only for students, but for northeast Indiana.

“We are excited to partner with the community foundation to add to the vitality of Steuben County,” said Trine president Earl D. Brooks II, Ph.D. “We have a shared vision for improving, not only local artistic outlets, but the area as a whole.”

Danic said the community foundation believes the performing arts center will add an element of arts and humanities to the growing and dynamic community.

“Steuben County is a year-round vacation destination for many families, and we want to increase our entertainment offerings for visitors,” Danic said.

She added that the community foundation is one of the few public foundation’s in northeast Indiana that grants to groups and organizations that endorse arts and humanities.

“The community foundation is proud to support many wonderful nonprofits helping people throughout the area, and granting to the artistic side allows us to round out support needs in the community,” Danic said.
