Engineering Expo set for April 27
ANGOLA, Ind. – See robots in action, check out a reusable rocket designed to meet NASA specifications or get an up-close look at a combat surgical tool designed for local industry at Trine University’s annual Engineering Expo Friday, April 27, from noon to 3 p.m.
The expo will showcase the work of seniors in Trine’s Allen School of Engineering & Technology in Fawick Hall.
Keynote Speaker Don Wood, founder of 80/20 Inc., along with chief operating officer Cindy Riemersma will give a special presentation, “Living the Dream: The Creation of 80/20 Inc.” from noon to 12:30 in Fawick Hall 112/117. Wood started his career at a young age selling seeds door-to-door. Being a true entrepreneur all of his life, Wood has gained wisdom and real-life experiences from a variety of roles including machinist, salesman, board member and business owner.
In 1989, a small, 3,000-square-foot space in Fort Wayne, Ind., became the first home of The Industrial Erector Set. 80/20 has flourished in less than 15 years and has moved to its own 115,000-square-foot warehouse.
Following the presentation, guests are encouraged to tour the building and its laboratories and classrooms, as well as see demonstrations of students’ projects.
“This event would not have been possible without our dedicated faculty and staff, tenacious students, and committed exhibitors and industrial partners,” said VK Sharma, Ph.D., dean of the engineering school. “We look forward to this expo and hope that the community – and future engineers – will attend.”
Exhibitors at the event include Avalign Technologies, Cives Steel Company, Deister Machine Inc., DePuy Orthopaedics, ETA Engineering Inc., Inovateus Solar LLC and Nucor Building Systems.
Industrial partners include Anderson Development Company, Avalign Technologies, Deister Machine Inc., Metal Technologies Inc., Raytheon, Symmetry Medical Inc. and North East Fabrication Company.
