Trine congratulates national award recipient

ANGOLA, Ind. — Trine University congratulates trustee and philanthropist Ian M. Rolland, who will be one of four people in the nation to receive the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) 2011 Distinguished Friend of Education Award during CASE’s Summit for Advancement Leaders July 11 in Chicago.

The annual awards honor individuals and organizations for extraordinary service to education and the field of educational advancement, which includes alumni relations, fundraising, communications and marketing. Rolland was nominated for the award by University of Saint Francis president M. Elise Kriss.

“He exemplifies the qualities of both a leader and a philanthropist,” said Trine University president Earl D. Brooks II, Ph.D. “We are honored to have his expertise, support and involvement for the betterment of our institution and that of so many others, which in turn, improves the lives of students throughout the state.”

Rolland’s service history is distinguished. He is a past member of the board of trustees of the Hudson Institute; a member of the board of University of Saint Francis; a panel member of the Child Care Action Campaign National Advisory Panel; a member of the advisory board of CID Ventures and CID Partners; past chairman of the board of trustees of DePauw University; past chairman of the Board of Regents of the Indiana Academy; and serves as chair of the Indiana Natural Resources Foundation.

After graduating in 1955 from DePauw University, where he majored in mathematics and economics, he went on to earn his master’s degree in mathematics from the University of Michigan in 1956. He has been awarded honorary doctorates from DePauw, Purdue, University of St. Francis, Manchester College, Trine University and the Indiana Institute of Technology.
