Trine welcoming prospective students

Gov. Daniels proclaims July 23-27 Indiana Private College Week

 

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels has proclaimed July 23-27 as Indiana Private College Week, and Trine University will, again, participate in the event, which is sponsored by the Independent Colleges of Indiana (ICI).

In a proclamation issued from the governor’s office last week, the productivity of Indiana’s independent sector of higher education was cited­.  While enrolling only 20 percent of the state’s undergraduates, ICI campuses produce 35 percent of its bachelor’s degrees, as well as graduate the majority of their students within four years.  The proclamation also notes the distinctive role the 31 campuses play in the advancement of Indiana, not only through high-quality education, but also economic, cultural and civic contributions to communities throughout the state.

     

“We were pleased to see that Governor Daniels recognized ICI colleges and universities, including Trine, for their ability to graduate students within four years, saving students time and money and giving them a head start in their careers,” said Trine president Earl D. Brooks II, Ph.D. “This year, Trine is giving over $20 million in institutional aid to over 90 percent of its student body. We are also encouraging students and their parents to consider our three-year accelerated track, which helps reduce the cost of a college education.”

Trine encourages and welcomes visitors throughout the year, but this concentrated week offers the opportunity to experience one or more ICI campuses in a less formal way during the summer. It also allows students who may not have ever considered attending one of Indiana’s independent colleges to begin to explore that option.

Those visiting will get to experience firsthand the unique personality of each campus through tours, informational sessions, and conversations with students and staff. According to research conducted by Eduventures, 71 percent of high-school students identify the campus visit as the most trusted source of information about a college.

"We want every family to find out why earning a degree at an Indiana private, non-profit college is smart academically and smart financially," says Richard L. Ludwick, ICI president and chief executive officer. “Unlike at other types of Indiana colleges and universities, the majority of our students graduate in four years rather than six- or two-thirds the time it takes elsewhere.”

Visitors between the ages of 16 and 20 touring one or more ICI campuses during Private College Week will have the chance to enter a drawing for an Apple iPad. Entry forms and rules will be available at each campus.
