I was seldom able to see an opportunity until it had ceased to be one. -- Mark Twain

Each day, I’m more amazed by the generosity of Trine University’s alumni and friends. The months of January and February have provided great opportunities for alumni to give back to their alma mater, and you have certainly stepped up to do so.

In January, we held the fifth annual scholarship golf classic in Longboat Key, Fla. We had 54 golfers participate and everyone had a great time. The event raised more than $27,000 for the student scholarship fund. I have heard from several participants who are excited to attend next year, and are planning to bring more friends and family to play, too.

Also in January, the fifth annual career fair took place in the Rick L. and Vicki L. James University Center. During this time, Trine University welcomed 53 companies and organizations. More than 24 alumni represented their respective companies, and actively recruited Trine University students for employment and internship possibilities. I had the opportunity to visit with several alumni in attendance, and was pleased to hear their positive feedback regarding our students.

On Feb. 9, Trine University hosted the 10th annual Black and White Scholarship Gala. This event raised more than $300,000 for student scholarships. More than 350 alumni and friends joined us for an evening of live and silent auctions and dinner prepared by Bon Appetite while sharing their enthusiasm for supporting student scholarships.

As you likely know by now, there are several ways for you to give back to your alma mater. Alumni engagement through volunteering, attending alumni events and investing in our current students are just some of the possibilities.
