Thunder Women's Basketball
2013-14 Season Preview
The Trine women’s basketball team enters the 2013-14 season with high expectations after a successful season last year. The Lady Thunder had an overall record of 14-12, which represented its first winning record in a decade. The team was led by Sydney Spragg and Megan Loveberry, first and second team All-MIAA, respectfully. The duo has graduated and will be difficult to replace.
Despite losing two to commencement, the team has had a great preseason, working hard to continue and build off the success of last year. Returning players will work by committee to replace the 26 points that were typically scored by Spragg and Loveberry.
The Lady Thunder won nine games by eight points or less, thanks to a stingy defensive team. Getting to the free throw line and creating turnovers were the keys to success. The returning players who played significant minutes -- Kelsey Henselmeier, Kayla Dunn, Lauren Tait, Alivia Recker, and Megan Engle -- will be relied upon to help the team succeed. Amy Newell, who’s coming off an ACL tear, and Sammy Bortner will also work to help in the team’s success. New players, including Becky Depp, Taylor Cole, Brittany Herr, Kate Wollen, Katelyn Sager, Sara Miller and Hollee Kubiszak, will all compete for minutes to help the Thunder meet its goal of a return trip to the MIAA final four.
