Trine welcomes new employer outreach coordinator

ANGOLA — Trine University’s new employer outreach coordinator made contacts with students and professors long before he set up shop in his new office on the main campus in Angola this month. Paul Viglianti is looking forward to networking with employers for the benefit of students.
 
Before coming to Trine, Viglianti worked as the sales and marketing director at Fort Wayne’s Allen County War Memorial Coliseum, where he talked to students about job opportunities and helped Trine students find internships. He also planned multiple fundraisers and worked with people from a variety of backgrounds to coordinate 1,600 events each year at the Coliseum.
 
“I had the chance to talk to students about eight different careers in sport management at the Coliseum,” Viglianti said. “Now that I’m at Trine I can take this a level further and help employers see the value that Trine students offer them as interns, co-ops and full-time employees.”
 
Viglianti started teaching hospitality and tourism classes as an adjunct professor at Trine in 2010. He asked some of the contacts he made while working at the Coliseum to come as guest speakers to his classes — and he never hesitated to ask about career and internship possibilities. During his first 12 weeks as a professor, he opened up 11 student internship opportunities within Fort Wayne and Allen County.  
 
“Paul’s marketing experience will compliment the strides we’re already making in this office,” said Linda Bateman, director of career services. “We offer many resources for our students, but Paul, his contacts in the business world and his enthusiasm will help take our office to the next level.”
 
Viglianti has more than 30 years of work experience in the higher education, marketing and sports and entertainment fields.
 
“I am enjoying a wonderful career with lifelong local and national friends and contacts,” Viglianti said. “With the help of my contacts and experiences, I can help our students find internships and careers in their areas of interest.”
