Fundraisers set for scholarships
Books and Beyond challenge
under way, annual gala is Feb. 9
ANGOLA, Ind. – Ninety-eight percent of Trine University students receive financial aid/scholarships and Trine has two events planned to help secure funding for future scholarships.
Trine’s annual Books and Beyond Scholarship Program matching grant challenge
is under way and the 10th annual Black & White Scholarship Gala is planned for Feb. 9.
“We are once again excited to offer the Books and Beyond challenge and to host the Black & White Scholarship Gala,” said Trine president Earl D. Brooks II, Ph.D. “Support for Books and Beyond from the community, friends and alumni, coupled with community sponsorship of the gala, contribute greatly to our efforts to provide scholarships to so many of our deserving students.”
MTI Foundation is challenging donors by offering a matching grant of $35,000, $5,000 more than last year. Alumnus Rick L. James, chair of Trine’s Board of Trustees, and president and chief executive officer of Metal Technologies, Inc., and his wife, Vicki L. James, offered the matching grant last year, too.
Books and Beyond scholarships are given to deserving students who may use the grants to purchase books, computers, school and lab supplies and meals. Funds also help students pay modest account balances to enable them to register for the next semester.
Last year, more than $65,000 was raised, for which many students and their families expressed gratitude. The need and thankfulness spurred the Jameses and MTI Foundation to increase the match.
Anyone who would like to sponsor a $500 Books and Beyond Scholarship should contact Gretchen M. Miller at 665.4312 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
Black & White Scholarship Gala

Auction items include vacation and golf packages, jewelry, home décor and furnishings, gourmet dinners, entertainment certificates, sports memorabilia, luggage and laptop computers.
Last year, the ninth year for the event, put Trine past the $1 million mark collectively for gala fundraising.
