White promoted to vice president
ANGOLA – Randy White was promoted to vice president for student life at Trine University this week.
White has served as dean of student life at Trine since 2005. Prior to that, he worked as a project manager and guest lecturer at Indiana University and was in management at Pokagon State Park for 27 years. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Indiana University and his master’s degree from Indiana Wesleyan University.
“Randy has served as a hard-working, supportive ambassador for the students of Trine. His focus has truly been on making Trine a world-class institution to better serve our students,” said Earl D. Brooks II, president of Trine University. “Randy has consistently met the needs of our students by engaging them in a multitude of campus activities, utilized their opinions when we made facility improvements and recognized their hard work through leadership initiatives such as our ambassador program.”
As Trine has grown residentially from 450 to 1,050 students, White has been key in the planning, implementation and success of student life programs, Brooks added.
“As a result of his diligent efforts, we have been able to provide additional opportunities to assist and engage students on campus in a very meaningful and supportive way,” Brooks said.
White first became involved with Trine many years ago as an adjunct faculty member in Trine’s Ketner School of Business and (what is now) the School of Professional Studies. He had a desire to help students and to make a difference in their lives.
“From my standpoint, the position I’m in is the best one in the university. I get to work day to day with students,” White said. “In my new role, I can now work strategically with the university to continue to provide programming and activities to better serve our students.”
For the past five years, White has worked to foster a team environment in the office of student life. As a result, a well-organized residential life program developed, campus safety coverage increased and students are becoming more involved in new activities.
“When we talk about making things better, our goal is to do it better every year, not the way we’ve always done it,” White said. “In setting that goal, we realized we needed to let students join our team and help plan events. Five years ago, our office would plan an event for students and we’d have very low attendance. Then, we partnered with students and built events together.”
In his new role, White will oversee residence life, campus safety, counseling, student activities, mail services, food service and health and wellness.
“Randy is a tremendous asset to Trine,” Brooks said. “His new position will allow him to better serve and reach out to our students in providing the complete institutional experience.”
