Two women earn scholarships to attend Trine grant writing classes
ANGOLA, Ind. – The Steuben County Community Foundation awarded two local nonprofit leaders scholarships to attend Trine University’s Grant Writing for Nonprofits program in April.
Susan Ralston of Refugees Read and Steuben County 4-H and Mada Waldrop, the executive director of Women in Transition, both will attend the event. Relying solely on grants, Refugees Read, a 501(c)3 Angola-based organization, partners with local schools to ship “retired” books to refugee camps in Africa. Women in Transition is a safe haven for women to learn to live clean and sober, with a goal of returning women to the community, as active contributing members.
Space is still available for the grant writing class, which will meet Thursdays from April 5 to 26 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day.
“What is commonly known as grant writing is, in fact, a process that includes research, planning and collaboration. This skill-building program is a step-by-step guide to understanding the essentials of that process,” said program facilitator Kelly Trusty, M.A., who serves as the director of the growing Master of Science in Leadership (MSL) program at Trine. “Participants will develop the skills to define specific needs in their organizations, identify potential funders, gather organizational information, create budgets, write proposals and develop complete packages for a grant submission.”
Trusty and her colleagues at Trine have over 30 years and $40 million worth of grant writing and nonprofit leadership experience to the classroom.
The grant writing class costs $495 for up to two individuals from the same organization. Scholarships may be available.
