Trine Drama Club to 'Play with One-Acts'

ANGOLA, Ind. — Trine University Drama Club will be “Playing with One-Acts” March 31 and April 1-2 at 7:30 p.m. in Wells Theater.

Each night will include one-act plays including, “The Brute" and “Murder Well Rehearsed."

“The Brute,” by Antov Chekhov, is the story of a desperate creditor who comes to collect from his debtor’s widow.  It’s the story of two immovable forces and a servant. “The Brute” is directed Timothy Hopp, Ph.D.

In John R. Carroll’s “Murder Well Rehearsed,” a drama club comes to rehearse its play and discovers a body that was not part of the plot.  Who actually staged the murder? Senior design engineering technology major Erik Evans of Highland directs “Murder Well Rehearsed.”

Students participating in the performances include: junior computer engineering major Sebastian Audet of Indianapolis, sophomore design engineering technology major Steven Crouch of Hobart, freshman civil engineering major Heather Darrah of Topsfield, Mass., sophomore social studies education major Kerri Fish of Climax, Mich., senior criminal justice and psychology major Mandy Howe of Elkhart, senior psychology major Heather Jessee of Wabash, junior chemical engineer Libby Wentz of Berkey, Ohio, senior computer engineering major Daniel Wiehe of Fort Wayne, and sophomore mechanical and electrical engineering major Todd Wilburn of Woodburn. Delaney Mosher of Monticello will manage the stage for all plays.

The performances are free and open to the public; however, the plays use minor colorful language and adult situations.

While best known for its programs in engineering, Trine has a surprisingly strong theatrical heritage, due to the legendary efforts of Angola’s own Charles Edwin Shank. In 1913 he organized the Dramatic Club, which has been producing plays with students from all sorts of majors at the university.

Drama Club is a student-run organization and makes decisions in all areas of production from play selection to direction, design and acting.
