Korea-America Student Convention kicks off July 5

 

ANGOLA, Ind. – Trine University will host more than 40 student delegates during the Korea-America Student Convention’s fifth annual opening ceremony Thursday, July 5,  at 3 p.m. in Fabiani Theatre in the Rick L. and Vicki L. James University Center on the main campus.

Angola Mayor Richard Hickman, state Sen. Dennis Kruse and Trine president Earl D. Brooks II, Ph.D., will speak at the July 5 event, which is open to the public.

This month, delegates from the United States and Korea are taking part in the prestigious Korea-America Student Conference, the most dynamic student-led academic and cultural exchange program between two countries. Student delegates from both countries will travel around the United States while discussing some of the most pressing issues concerning both countries.

Student delegates will represent their schools and hometowns in roundtable discussions, field trips, research presentations and cultural exchange among a group of students from top schools in both countries. Under the theme, “New Possibilities, Infinite Potential,” the student delegates will learn about several issues, such as environment, arts, security issues, social enterprises and politics.

After their stay at Trine, the delegates will travel to Washington, D.C., Columbia, Mo., and Los Angeles.

KASC’s mission is to promote peace through mutual understanding, friendship and trust between Korea and the United States. The annual 30-day exchange that alternates between the countries is designed to give students opportunities to grow in leadership, research, diplomacy and network.
