Trine may cap enrollment

ANGOLA, Ind. – Trine University may cap its main campus enrollment next year, after welcoming 2,260 students – 60 more than anticipated – to classes on main campus, Trine Virtual Campus and the School of Professional Studies this week.

Earlier this month, administrators conservatively reported an expected enrollment increase of 5.2 percent over August 2010 figures. After registration this past weekend, Trine reported that 2,260 students enrolled for classes this fall, 8 percent more than last year. According to the Independent Colleges of Indiana (ICI) 2010 Fact Book, over the last five years, Trine has become the fastest growing independent university among the state’s 31 ICI member institutions.

“We are thrilled that so many students chose to pursue their educations at Trine,” said Scott Goplin, Trine’s vice president for enrollment management. “We have diligently been working on recruitment and retention efforts, and now we’re reaping the rewards.”

This year, students across the board had higher grade-point averages and standardized test scores. Goplin believes Trine’s national recognition in athletics and academics, new facilities made possible by the completion of a $90 million capital campaign, accreditations and enhanced academic programming are continuing to attract quality students.
