Call to serve coming to Trine

Federal government worker to give job presentation at Trine

 

ANGOLA, Ind. – Trine University is one of only 65 schools across the country to welcome a representative from Call To Serve, a program designed by the federal government to facilitate hiring for government positions.

Julie Saad, program analyst for student programs at Call to Serve, will give presentations Tuesday, Sept. 20, at 4 and 7 p.m. in Fabiani Theatre, in the University Center on Trine’s main campus.  Saad will discuss how to improve resumes, explain the federal hiring process and share news of internship, co-op and full-time job opportunities.

“The federal government has thousands of mission critical professional positions to fill over the next five years, especially in engineering, technology and business,” said Trine’s career services assistant director Terry Johnson, who organized the event. “Our guest speaker will share personal background and insight into what it is like to serve the federal government.”

Wanting to expand career opportunities for students, Johnson attended a federal advisor training last year. By attending the training, Johnson was able to have Trine added to the list of colleges from which the federal government recruits. Johnson also worked with Monica Bowles-Kozlowski, who works in U.S. Sen. Richard Lugar’s office, to apply for a Call to Serve representative to visit campus and talk with students, faculty, staff and others interested in student programs. 

“I was astounded by the number and variety of positions available, and many jobs are in line with our program offerings at Trine,” Johnson said. “Only 16 percent of the jobs are in Washington D.C.”
