Skits, program on Oct. 30 at Trine
will focus on cyber security

Students will tell how to keep
information, technology secure

ANGOLA, Ind. – Learning how to protect computers and smart phones from viruses and other risks is the topic of a free presentation next week at Trine University.

Cyber Security Awareness Night is at 7 p.m.  Tuesday, Oct. 30, in Fabiani Theatre, Rick L. and Vicki L. James University Center.

Drama Club and members of Eta Kappa Nu, Trine’s honor society for electrical and computer engineering students, will perform skits and provide tips about keeping information and technology secure.

“No one is solely responsible for securing the Internet, which means each person has a role in securing cyberspace, whether on a computer at work or on a smart phone.  We face cyber threats individually and collectively every day,” said Dr. Nandan Garg, assistant professor of computer engineering at Trine University.  “It is important for people to be aware of the information they share and access online.”

Garg said he encourages people to stop and think before using the Internet, to take time to understand risks and learn how to spot potential problems. “Then, you can enjoy the Internet, knowing you’ve taken the right steps to safeguard yourself and your computer,” he said.
