Storm's Challenge 5k
ANGOLA, Ind. – It's not too late -- participants can still register for Storm's Challenge, a 5k run/walk set for Saturday.
The Trine University Office of Alumni and Development, along with the brothers of Delta Chi fraternity, are teaming together to produce the first Storm's Challenge for the Jimmy V Foundation for Cancer Research and everyone is invited to participate. The event is scheduled 8 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 5, on Trine's campus as part of the 2013 homecoming festivities.
Storm's Challenge is twofold: First, to challenge walkers and runners of all skill levels with a 5K fitness activity; second, to raise money for the Jimmy V Foundation.
Earl D. Brooks II, Ph.D., Trine president, will start off the run under the Ryan Skywalk, and participants will be joined by Trine's mascot Storm and members of the Trine Exercise Science Club for support. The 5K ends at Fred Zollner Athletic Stadium, where refreshments will be offered.
Planners intend to make Storm's Challenge an annual event.
The Jimmy V Foundation has awarded more than $100 million to more than 100 facilities nationwide and awards 100 percent of direct donations and net event proceeds to cancer research.
With the help of Trine's students, staff, alumni and community members, it is hoped that support will be raised for this cause, and incite initiative to support Storm's Challenge for years to come. As incentive for students to participate, President Brooks will give the Jimmy V Foundation $1 for each Trine student who enters. So far, seven alumni and friends are matching the president's donation so the foundation will receive $8 for each Trine student who participates.
Registration is $10, participants will receive a T-shirt and all other proceeds will be donated to the Jimmy V Foundation. To register, visit trine.edu/homecoming, or arrive at 7 a.m. on the day of the event.
