Meet your admission counselor

Taja Cunningham, better known as TJ to most, hails from Redford, Mich., where she graduated with high honors from Lee M. Thurston High School. She served as captain of the varsity basketball and track and field and volunteered for the community youth athletic league (Redford Township Junior Athletic Association).

A Trine graduate, she has experienced a bit of everything that the university has to offer, starting her freshman year playing on the women’s basketball team, but later, after an injury, traded playing time for hanging out with her Kappa Sigma Alpha sorority sisters (her family away from home). While here, she switched her major to finance. Once enrolled in the Ketner School of Business, she found her passion in her favorite courses – strategic management, personal finance and investments.

Now, TJ is pursuing a Master of Science in Leadership with a concentration in Sustainable Business Administration at Trine, as part of the five-year degree track now available for business students.

“I made the decision to go straight through to graduate school, and I knew there was no better place to complete it than where I started my college journey”, TJ said. She encourages all business and engineering students to explore master’s programs at Trine.

When she is not in the office, you will likely find TJ in the gym lifting weights, or shopping for sportswear, her guilty pleasure. Once her workout is done, her TV is tuned into “NCIS,” “Law & Order: SVU,” reruns of “Two and Half Men,” or one of her favorite movies (either “Casino,” “Goodfellas,” “Easy A” or “Horrible Bosses”). Otherwise, the radio is playing a mix of hip-hop, pop and even country, as she has come to love Jason Aldean, Keith Urban and Taylor Swift.

Sports-wise, she is always up for a great night out at Buffalo Wild Wings to watch her beloved New York Yankees, Indianapolis Colts, Michigan Wolverines and North Carolina Tarheels take out their heated rivals.
