For more than 20 years my goal has been to help empower students, wherever they are, by providing them rigorous yet supportive instruction in writing and analytical thinking.
I come to Trine University with nearly 20 years of teaching experience in diverse settings, including community colleges, large universities, as a tutor for recently relocated refugee families, and internationally in Malawi, Africa.
My areas of interest include creative non-fiction writing, rhetoric and composition, writing for the media, and modern and post-modern American literature.
In addition to teaching, I have a passion for creative expression and storytelling, and I enjoy exploring how language shapes our identities and our understanding of the world.
Outside of academia, I am an avid international traveler, but I particularly love the English countryside, Southeast Africa, and Central Mexico. I am a self-proclaimed English nerd who loves to escape the woes of the world by falling into the hope and beauty of a good book.
I have also worked as a journalist and been the co-owner of a small artisan distillery, which gave me the space to combine my writing skills, creativity, and business acumen.
When I’m not teaching or traveling, I can be found cooking overly complicated meals for my family and friends, and spending time with my motley crew of animals.
