I moved from Texas to northeastern Indiana in 1997. Through teaching high school mathematics, English as a Second Language, GED classes and part–time in the mathematics department at another institution, I discovered that my calling was to work with young adults.
I joined Trine in 2006, teaching Business Algebra, Applied Math, Elements of Math, College Algebra, the Calculus sequence, Differential Equations, Statistics, Linear Algebra, History of Mathematics, Complex Variables, Introduction to Proofs, and Probability and Statistics.
I serve on numerous committees and as adviser to Alpha Chi National College Honor Scholarship Society. In May 2009 I received the Robert Ewing and Gail Stewart Smith Excellence in Teaching Award in Arts and Sciences. In 2018 I received the Jannen Renaissance Award. I work for the College Board as a reader (and sometimes table leader) for the Advanced Placement Calculus exam during the summer.
I enjoy spending free time with family. My husband, Brian, and I have two daughters. Our oldest, Haley, is married to Luke, and both are graduates of Trine University (their son, Beckett, might be a Trine student one day). Our youngest daughter, Kylie, recently graduated from Trine. I also enjoy my friends, church activities, reading, music, and baking.
I feel privileged to work with students during their college years. My door is always open for questions, advice, or conversation.
2018 Jannen Renaissance Scholar Award recipient
The award — endowed by Robert L. Jannen, chair emeritus of the board of trustees and TSU alumnus, and his wife Dolores — recognizes faculty members who best represent the ideals of the Renaissance, showing both breadth of interest and accomplishment.
