My love for the medical profession started at an early age, performing “surgery” on my stuffed animals during playtime. It was not until college that I fell in love with physical therapy. I attended Creighton University, majoring in Exercise Science, and then received my Doctor of Physical Therapy degree in 1997 via the 3+3 program. My focus in patient care practice has been in orthopedics, but I have also practiced in pediatrics, burn/wound care, custom foot orthotics, and sports medicine. I maintain a hospital-based orthopedic practice for a few hours each week. I have been a Board Certified Orthopaedic Clinical Specialist by the American Board of Physical Therapy since 2007 and a Certified Orthopedic Manual Therapist (COMT) since 2019. My career path includes multiple years in northern Indiana in healthcare managerial and administrative roles.
In addition to teaching the Healthcare Delivery course series in the second year of the curriculum, I am honored to serve as the Director of Integrated Clinical Education for the Clinical Application and Refection Experience (CARE) courses. These courses set our program apart from other programs. Students and clinical instructors routinely credit the CARE courses for the exceptional level of student performance in professional behaviors and clinical skills during full-time clinical experiences. My research interests include practice administration, effectiveness and outcomes of clinical education models, orthopedics, and sports medicine.
In my spare time, I enjoy keeping up with my large, busy family, participating in church activities, serving as a high school soccer referee, playing golf, and traveling throughout the region to watch my children in various sports and theater activities. I am also pursuing my Ph.D. in Physical Therapy at Nova Southeastern University.
