The American Academy for Colleges of Nursing (AACN) has identified a national need to fill established and emerging nursing roles requiring educational preparation at the master’s level. The current demand for nurses with training in nursing informatics far outstrips the supply. The Certificate in Nursing Informatics prepares a nurse for roles such as clinical nurse analyst, chief information officer, informatics nurse, and health informatics specialist.
These certificates are available to nurses that possess a minimum of a baccalaureate degree in nursing.
The Experience
As a student in the fully online Certificate in Nursing Informatics program at Trine University, you'll receive a quality, innovative educational experience to prepare you for educator and leadership roles in a variety of environments.
Each certificate consists of four courses. Each course provides exceptional application-based knowledge that incorporates professional nursing standards relevant to contemporary nursing practice. The Certificate in Nursing Informatics prepares graduates for the Nursing Informatics Certification exam, which is administered through the American Nurses Credentialling Center.

Trine University accepts an online application only. It can be accessed by clicking on the apply button on this webpage. The Nursing Certificate program follows the university’s graduate admission policy outlined in the Trine University Student Handbook as well as the following criteria:
- A 3.0 GPA
- A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in nursing (BSN) from an institutionally accredited college or university. *Applicants currently in an RN-BSN program may apply for concurrent admission to the nursing certificate program.
- Official transcripts from each previous undergraduate and graduate institution attended (except for Trine University).
- Completed application.
- Have a current, unrestricted RN license in the United States.
- Personal narrative that explains the student’s interest in pursuing a certificate in nursing education.
