ANGOLA, Ind. – Trine University has surpassed the national average for job placement
by more than one and a half times as 97 percent of its graduates are employed or in
graduate school within six months of graduation.
"Our high placement rate shows our commitment to producing work-ready graduates and
providing a great return on investment for a college degree," said Earl D. Brooks
II, Ph.D., Trine president. "The fact that our rate exceeds the national average also
reflects the efforts of Trine faculty and staff to connect students with employers
through experiential learning and other opportunities."
Of Trine students who graduated from December 2012 through August 2013, 97 percent
were employed or in graduate school within six months of graduation. Employment in
some fields, such as accounting and mechanical engineering, reached 100 percent. The
national average is 63.6 percent as reported by the National Association of Colleges
and Employers' 2011-2012 Career Services Benchmark Survey for Four-Year Colleges and
Universities.
Trine's Jannen School of Arts & Sciences shows 99 percent of its graduates were employed
or in graduate school within six months of graduation. Franks School of Education
is at 98 percent, the Ketner School of Business at 97 percent and the Allen School
of Engineering & Technology at 95 percent.
Last year, Trine's job placement rate was 92 percent, which also exceeded the national
average. Trine's Office of Career Services credits the increase to an improved job
market, strong connections between employers and students, and the skills students
have that qualify them for positions. Career Services strives to build employer relationships
and create opportunities for employers and Trine students to connect. One such way
is through school-focused career nights, which provide a chance to explore career
paths with different industries.
During the 2012-2013 academic year, there were 483 full-time degree-required positions,
in addition to numerous internships, co-op positions and part-time jobs, posted on
TrineCareers.org, the online career portal for students.
Among academic majors that have 100 percent placement in jobs or graduate school are
accounting, electrical engineering, golf management, informatics, mechanical engineering,
sport management, psychology and fitness, recreational programming and exercise science.
