Annual golf outing raises $96k for scholarships

ANGOLA, Ind. – Trine University supporters came together Friday on the links of Zollner Golf Course for fun, food and fundraising.

A total of 69 teams raised over $96,000 at the 25th Annual Alumni & Friends Scholarship Golf Outing, setting records for both participation and total money raised at this event.

After a three-way tie for first place, winners were determined by a scorecard playoff. First place went to the Excell Color Graphics team of Fort Wayne. Second place was won by Kappa Sigma alumni Alex Lorencz ‘10, Shawn Floyd ‘09, Andrew Lesher ‘10 and Mat Iacobelli ‘09. Coming in third place was a team representing Northwest Comprehensive of Chicago.

Other winners of the day included Rob Mater, who won $530 in the 50/50 drawing, and Jim Smoots ’67, who won the putting green contest and took home a Dell Venue 8 Tablet donated by Dell Marketing Concepts.

Several other raffle prizes were generously donated, including a Taylor Made SLDR Driver, restaurant gift certificates and a Weber grill. Event and other major sponsors included Metal Technologies, Inc.; Parkview Health; Rieke Corp.;  Auburn Concrete and Masonry; AMI Investment Management; Bon Appetite Management Co.; Steve and Wendy LaHood and Chuck and Rita Nedele.

The annual golf outing benefits the Trine Fund for scholarships, which enables deserving students to earn a degree at Trine. The 2016 outing is scheduled for Aug. 5.
