The first event of the Diversity Awareness Committee’s new Cultural Talks series took place on Oct 13. Deepthi Enganti shared “Stories from the Heart - focus on India” to an audience of about 35 Trine students and staff in Wells Theater.

The Multicultural Student Organization group hosted a pre-session snack period with samosas, chips and salsa, humus and guacamole.  Enganti, a graduate Master of Science in Engineering Management student from Hyderabad, India, discussed her own culture from the Indian prospective. Enganti shared some of the difficulties she encountered while living in the United States, and shared a poem she wrote for Trine University:

“Trine ... a huge book of memories... I am loving it.

A year away from home,

A year in U.S,

A year of learning and making careers,

A year of making friends for the life time,

A year of celebration and bonding,

A year of exposure to the new world,

A year of learning being independent,

A year of fun, pain and experience,

A year of mastering our dreams ...

It is an year in Trine.”

The next Cultural Talk will be “#Beyond the Hashtag: A Conversation on Black Lives and Society” on Thursday at 7 p.m. in Best Hall 229. The last cultural talk of 2016 will be on Nov. 30  when James William Elias, a Native American Cherokee, will speak in Best Hall 229
