Trine University’s Department of Exercise Science will send a record number of graduates
into doctoral programs this fall.
Thirteen students will continue their education in Doctor of Physical Therapy and
Doctor of Occupational Therapy programs.
“Trine University’s vision to provide undergraduate and graduate programs in the area
of health science has taken flight. What was once a dream is now a reality!” said
Catherine Swick, Ph.D., associate dean of the Rinker-Ross School of Health Science.
“The Exercise Science department has seen record growth each of the last six years
and has continued to refine the curriculum, hire physical therapists as faculty members,
build new labs and cultivate success for its students. This year’s acceptance number
of 13 students into doctoral programs from the department is evidence Trine is on
the health science map with growing success!”
Eleven students have been accepted in to Trine University’s Doctor of Physical Therapy
program at the university’s Health Science Education Center in Fort Wayne:
- Cameron Buzzard of Warren;
- Shawna Carbone of Wolcottville;
- Madison Cook of Kendallville;
- Emily Ladd of Adrian, Michigan;
- Alexis Johnson of Parma, Michigan;
- Austin Jettinghoff of Delphos, Ohio;
- Carlee Richardson of LaGrange;
- Zachary Schmucker of Middlebury;
- Lindsey Welsh of Eaton; and
- Benjamin Pritchett of Fishers.
Erick Heckaman of Nappanee will continue his education in the Doctor of Physical Therapy
program at Grand Valley State University in Allendalle, Michigan, and Jessica Huffman
of Lapel has been accepted into the Doctor of Occupational Therapy program at Huntington
University.
Graduation from a physical therapist education program accredited by the Commission
on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE), 1111 North Fairfax Street,
Alexandria, VA 22314; phone; 703-706-3245; accreditation@apta.org is necessary for eligibility to sit for the licensure examination, which is required
in all states.
Effective 7/29/14, the Doctor of Physical Therapy Program at Trine University has
been granted Candidate for Accreditation status by the Commission on Accreditation
in Physical Therapy Education (1111 North Fairfax Street, Alexandria, VA, 22314; phone:
703-706-3245; email: accreditation@apta.org). Candidate for Accreditation is a pre-accreditation status of affiliation with the
Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education that indicates that the
program may matriculate students in the technical/ professional courses and that the
program is progressing toward accreditation. Candidate for Accreditation is not an
accreditation status nor does it assure eventual accreditation.
