LAS VEGAS — The Southern Nevada Chapter of the PGA’s Southwest Section recently honored
a 2017 Trine University accounting and golf management graduate as its 2023 Merchandiser
of the Year for public courses.
Trey Orrell served as head golf professional at Revere Golf Club in Henderson, Nevada,
and received the award at the organization’s annual awards banquet on Jan. 31.
During his tenure at Revere, the golf shop’s gross merchandise sales increased by
more than 10% each year.
The shop has particularly grown its tournament merchandise revenue by setting up opportunities
that allow players to choose their own prizes and gifts.
He said his merchandising philosophy at Revere included “removing the words “I, me,
my, mine and your.”
“Our philosophy is all about teamwork to create the best guest experience,” he said.
“This is why at Revere, monthly merchandise commission is shared with the entire golf
shop staff to ensure everyone is willing to assist our guests, no matter the day,
the time, or how busy of a day it is.”
He said the shop also stocks items you can’t purchase at a typical pro shop.
“We like to stay ahead of the game by bringing in the hottest and latest brands and
designs,” he said. “Revere was one of the first golf shops in the Vegas area to bring
in Bad Birdie and Swannies. We were also one of the first golf shops in the country
to bring in Lulu Lemon in 2021. The Revere Golf Club is a testing site for the new
women’s Travis Mathew apparel line.”
He also credited his team with the shop’s success.
“Anyone can have the nicest displays, the hottest brands and the right location, but
only facilities with the best people can thrive, and that’s what we have at the Revere
Golf Club,” he said.
