The Higher Learning Commission (HLC), an independent agency that accredits degree-granting
institutions throughout the United States, has continued and reaffirmed the accreditation
of Trine University, with the next reaffirmation of accreditation set for 2035-36.
The organization’s Institutional Actions Committee reaffirmed Trine’s accreditation
with no monitoring reports.
“I am so proud of the united efforts of so many during this important accreditation
process. Our Trine University standard of excellence was recognized by the HLC visit
team, who shared so many positive comments upon reviewing our extensive reports, quality
assurance measures, interviews and student outcomes,” said Tony Kline, Ph.D., Trine
University president. I want to give a special thank you to Tracey Floto, executive
director of curriculum and accreditation. This has been a massive review process,
years in the making, and Tracey approached this work as she always does, with thoughtfulness,
a strong understanding of data-informed decision-making, and collaboration.”
Accreditation provides assurance for students, graduates and employers that institutions
meet established standards of quality.
For the reaffirmation process, Trine University submitted a comprehensive evaluation
report including more than 500 pieces of supporting evidence.
Five members of the HLC peer review corps reviewed the report and asked follow-up
questions. They conducted in-person interviews on Feb. 23 and 24 with Trine administration
and academic staff.
“There was a focus on Trine’s College of Graduate and Professional Studies because
of the significant growth we have had in our graduate programs,” said Floto. “The
HLC team was very impressed with our efforts in that area and concluded that Trine
is serving its community well.”
Trine University will submit an assurance review to HLC in 2029-2030 and will design
and implement a project to improve aspects of the university or pursue strategic initiatives
prior to the next comprehensive evaluation.
Founded in 1895, HLC is an independent agency that accredits degree-granting colleges
and universities in the United States. HLC provides accreditation for the institution
as a whole rather than individual academic programs.
