Trine University administrators, faculty, staff and students heard an update on the state of the U.S. economy at the PNC Economic Outlook, held Sept. 29 at the Grand Wayne Center in Fort Wayne.
Hosted by the Fort Wayne chapter of Financial Executives International and PNC Financial Services Group, the event featured a presentation by Gus Faucher, senior vice president and chief economist for PNC.
“The main theme of the presentation, which featured a lot of macroeconomic data, was that the U.S. economy seems to be coping well with the difficulties presented by the supply chain disruptions caused by the conflict in the Middle East,” said Marek Kolar, Ph.D., associate professor in the Ketner School of Business. “It seems the labor market is doing fine, and the manufacturing sector has been growing so far this year after a few years of stagnation.”
Dr. Kolar said Faucher was confident that the Federal Reserve will be able to keep inflation under control.
“In his opinion, the ongoing federal budget deficit will likely result in slower economic growth, but the policymakers will be able to avoid more severe negative outcomes,” Dr. Kolar said.
In addition to Kolar, Trine University was represented by Tony Kline, Ph.D., university president, Matt Land, vice president of advancement, Ellen Paxton, assistant vice president for university advancement, and Ketner School of Business students Lucas Cole, Jocilynn Radtke and Annemarie Moore.
