Trine University dedicates new training center to support student experience

October 06, 2026

Continuing its support for a premier student experience, Trine University dedicated its new Trine Family Training Center on Saturday, Oct. 3.

The facility, located on the west end of the university’s Fred Zollner Athletic Stadium, provided a close-up view of football players warming up on Shive Field as Tony Kline, Ph.D., Trine University recognized major donors to the project.

“As we cheer them on, know that your contributions to this facility played a part in the excellence you will see on the field,” Dr. Kline said, foreshadowing the Thunder football team’s 33-9 Homecoming win over Alma that afternoon.

Weight stations, locker rooms

In addition to expanded weight training stations with a beautiful view of the university’s resurfaced football field, the Trine Family Training Center includes two 50-person locker rooms for visiting teams, a shower, restroom, rubber floor and turf for training.

The center is part of an overall renovation project at Zollner Stadium that also includes a new varsity locker room, new team room and new HVAC system.

“Here at Trine, we know that athletics are a critical part of a well-rounded student experience, and for several years we’ve realized that our teams would soon outgrow the space available,” Dr. Kline said. “We’re excited to dedicate this new facility and provide a beautiful, state-of-the-art space to allow our athletes to perform to their full potential.”

Donors recognized

Sheri Trine, a namesake for Trine University along with her late husband Ralph and a member of the university’s Board of Trustees, was not able to attend the dedication but said in a statement read during the event that her family has had many fond memories at the stadium and is looking forward to the future success of Thunder athletics.

“We know that by becoming better athletes, Trine students are developing the discipline and teamwork to become more well-rounded students and, eventually, graduates, employees and leaders,” she said.

Her daughter, Carri Trine, accepted a plaque recognizing her generosity on Sheri’s behalf.

Dr. Kline presented similar plaques honoring Parkview Sports Medicine, John B. Pellegrino Jr. and Michael Kinder & Sons.

“We celebrate and sincerely thank everyone who was part of this magnificent addition to our campus,” he said.
