Assistant Professor of English

The Opportunity:

Trine University’s Department of Humanities and Communication welcomes applications for an Assistant Professor of English to join our faculty, beginning Fall 2024. Trine is a non-tenured, student-centered institution that prides itself on preparing students to enter the work force. The Department of Humanities and Communication fosters a culture of collaboration and creativity, and English students and faculty work closely with both the Communication Program and a variety of departments across campus.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Instruct English and Communication courses (Technical Communication, College Composition, Speech, and Business Communication)
Serve as an academic advisor to students
Teach the standard faculty load of twelve (12) credit hours per semester
Post and maintain a regular schedule of at least ten (10) office hours per week
Assist with course development and program assessment
Provide service to the university in the form of committee work
Be responsible for additional duties and assignments as prescribed by the respective Department Chair

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will

Be committed to student learning
Have experience teaching a breadth of courses in writing and communication, including courses in introductory and advanced composition, technical communication, business communication, and speech
Have earned an MA in English, Communication, or a related field. A terminal degree (PhD/MFA) is preferred.
