The Opportunity: 

Trine University’s Department of Humanities and Communication welcomes applications for an Assistant Professor of English to join our faculty, beginning Fall 2024. Trine is a non-tenured, student-centered institution that prides itself on preparing students to enter the work force. The Department of Humanities and Communication fosters a culture of collaboration and creativity, and English students and faculty work closely with both the Communication Program and a variety of departments across campus.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Instruct English and Communication courses (Technical Communication, College Composition, Speech, and Business Communication)
  • Serve as an academic advisor to students
  • Teach the standard faculty load of twelve (12) credit hours per semester
  • Post and maintain a regular schedule of at least ten (10) office hours per week
  • Assist with course development and program assessment
  • Provide service to the university in the form of committee work
  • Be responsible for additional duties and assignments as prescribed by the respective Department Chair

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will

  • Be committed to student learning
  • Have experience teaching a breadth of courses in writing and communication, including courses in introductory and advanced composition, technical communication, business communication, and speech
  • Have earned an MA in English, Communication, or a related field. A terminal degree (PhD/MFA) is preferred.
