Summary
The Wade Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering and McKetta Department of Chemical and Bioprocess Engineering at Trine University invite applications for a faculty position at the rank of Assistant/Associate Professor with areas of expertise in thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, heat transfer, and energy systems. We seek a dynamic, student-centered educator with expertise in thermal and fluid sciences who will contribute to our mission of promoting intellectual and personal development through professionally focused and formative learning opportunities, preparing students to succeed, lead, and serve. The successful candidate will demonstrate a passion for teaching, mentoring, and engaging undergraduates in both classroom and laboratory settings, and will also pursue scholarly and professional activities that support and enhance undergraduate education.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Teaching & Mentoring
- Teach undergraduate courses in thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and heat transfer, along with related mechanical and chemical engineering electives.
- Develop engaging, hands-on learning experiences that emphasize conceptual understanding, problem-solving, and application.
- Supervise undergraduate design and research projects, including capstone design and other experiential learning opportunities.
- Maintain regular office hours and provide thoughtful academic and career advising.
Scholarship & Professional Development
- Pursue scholarly activity consistent with the institution’s mission, the scholarship of teaching and learning, pedagogical innovation, or industry collaboration.
- Involve undergraduates in research or creative scholarly work.
- Present scholarly work at conferences and/or publish in relevant journals or engineering education venues.
- Remain active through professional society participation (e.g., ASME, AIChE, ASEE) and continuing professional growth.
Service & Community Engagement
- Participate in departmental, college, and university service, including committee work and student recruitment/outreach.
- Support accreditation (ABET) and assessment efforts.
Education and/or Experience
Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or closely related field with an emphasis in thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, heat transfer, or energy systems.

Rank and salary will be based on qualifications.
