Summary

As part of the Department of Student Success and Engagement, the Director of Library and Information Services at Trine University plays an essential role in maintaining a culture of excellent, student-centered experience. Within the framework of this larger effort to meet with absolute dedication any student needs that may arise, the Director of Library and Information Services exemplifies these efforts for the library professional and student staff, as well as for the rest of the departmental team, by providing leadership and direction for the two libraries serving the students on the main campus of Trine University. The Director of Library and Information Services provides strategic and long-range planning, policy development, fiscal management, personnel supervision, and the establishment of internal and external partnerships.

Essential Duties and Other Responsibilities:

  • Serves as the head of Information Services and is responsible for the direction and administration of all Information Services activities
  • Provides leadership in creating a vision, development, and implementation of a viable strategic plan for Library and Information Services that aligns with the larger vision for Student Success and Engagement
  • Develops, implements, reviews, and updates policies and procedures
  • Recruits, leads, motivates, promotes staff engagement and career development
  • Contributes to the oversight and direction of daily facility operations
  • Prepares and effectively manages budgets and anticipates future needs
  • Provides leadership in the direction of the physical space
  • Ensures Library and Information Services follows accreditation standards and participates in document preparation and accreditation site visits
  • Maintains awareness of emerging technologies and service trends
  • Oversees and evaluates research support services and resources
  • Designs, implements, and evaluates innovative outreach programs and services to achieve Student Success and Engagement objectives
  • Collaborates with faculty in the planning, development, and delivery of curricula related to information literacy, access, and management
  • Identifies grant opportunities and works with staff to prepare proposals related to programs and operations
  • Represents Trine University on PALNI committees
  • Participates in professional organizations for the purpose of continuing education, outreach, information sharing, and networking
  • Prepares reports and presentations as needed
  • Other duties as assigned by the Vice President of Student Success and Engagement, or his/her designee

Qualifications

  • MLS, MLIS, MS or equivalent from an ALA-accredited graduate program
  • Supervisory experience
  • 2+ years’ professional library experience, with ever-increasing administrative responsibility
  • A commitment to student-centered excellence
  • Ability to maintain an exciting and fun learning environment for students
  • Knowledge and understanding of the changing roles and technologies of academic libraries with the ability to work in a complex, changing environment
  • Ability to work within a strong collaborative working environment
  • Demonstrated skills in managing budgets within a complex infrastructure
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills; excellence in written and oral communication
  • Ability to prioritize, multi-task, and meet deadlines to conceptualize new solutions to problems
  • Demonstrated knowledge of library operations, including cataloging, electronic resource management, inter-library loan, vendor negotiations, and website development
  • Working knowledge of the laws governing information access, copyright, communication and archiving
