Summary
The Director of Library and Information Services at Trine University leads efforts to design and implement the vision and direction for student-centered service and resource delivery at the Angola campus. The Director of Library and Information Services provides strategic and long-range planning, policy development, fiscal management, personnel supervision, and the establishment of internal and external partnerships.
Essential Duties and Other Responsibilities:
- Serves as the head of Library and Information Services (LIS) and is responsible for the direction and administration of all Information Services activities at the Angola campus.
- Provides leadership in creating a vision, development, and implementation of a viable strategic plan for LIS that aligns with the larger vision for Student Success.
- Develops, implements, reviews, and updates policies and procedures.
- Prepares and effectively manages budgets and anticipates future needs.
- Provides leadership in the direction of the physical space.
- Adheres to accreditation standards and participates in document preparation and accreditation site visits.
- Maintains awareness of emerging technologies and service trends.
- Oversees and evaluates research support services and resources.
- Designs, implements, and evaluates innovative outreach programs and services to achieve Student Success objectives.
- Collaborates with faculty in the planning, development, and delivery of curricula related to information literacy, access, and management.
- Identifies grant opportunities and works with staff to prepare proposals related to programs and operations.
- Emphasizes and expands the use of Open Educational Resources.
- Represents Trine University on PALNI committees.
- Leads marketing, promotion, and admissions-related events of Library services, resources, and programs.
- Participates in professional organizations for the purpose of continuing education, outreach, information sharing, and networking.
- Prepares reports and presentations as needed.
- Functions as liaison to Trine University education centers and the College of Graduate and Professional Studies for Library and digital resource needs.
- Supervises and manages Angola campus LIS employees, handling all aspects of employee development.
- Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director of Student Success.
Qualifications
- MLS, MLIS, MS or equivalent from an ALA-accredited graduate program.
- Supervisory experience.
- 2+ years’ professional library experience, with ever-increasing administrative responsibility
- Ability to maintain an effective learning environment for students.
- Knowledge and ability to work in a collaborative, complex, and changing environment.
- Demonstrated skills in managing budgets within a complex infrastructure.
- Outstanding interpersonal skills; excellence in written and oral communication.
- Ability to prioritize, multi-task, and meet deadlines to conceptualize new solutions to problems.
- Demonstrated knowledge of library operations, including cataloging, electronic resource management, inter-library loan, vendor negotiations, and website development.
- Working knowledge of the laws governing information access, copyright, communication, archiving, and accreditation standards.
