The Opportunity: 

The Department of Music at Trine University invites applications for a Director of Music Programs/Assistant Professor of Music.  The successful candidate will be an excellent teacher, conductor, leader, and recruiter, whose focus is on growing the University’s music programs both in terms of size and quality. We particularly seek candidates able to work collaboratively and build relationships with constituencies across campus and in the local community.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Direct and administer all aspects of the Sound of Thunder Marching Band and the athletic pep band, including overseeing the summer band camp.
  • Direct the wind ensemble, jazz band, and chamber orchestra.
  • Actively recruit students from regional high schools to participate in the music programs.
  • Teach undergraduate courses.
  • Recruit, hire, and evaluate adjunct faculty, including those overseeing the Trine University Choir.
  • Work collaboratively with the departments of Athletics and Events to coordinate music performances.
  • Develop relationships with band directors across the region as well as key constituencies in the local Angola community.

Required education:  

Master’s degree in music education, performance, conducting or related discipline required. A doctoral degree is preferred.
