Summary

The Instructional Design Specialist supports the effective development and delivery of high-quality online courses through standards and processes established by TrineOnline. This is accomplished through collaboration with online faculty and staff to develop engaging course content, course maintenance, and identification of areas for continuous improvement in online course delivery. The Instructional Design Specialist works with faculty and staff to promote online education, develop online courses and provide faculty support in the areas of instructional design and technology. The successful candidate will be a team-oriented professional who is willing to learn and participate in a collaborative setting under the direction of the Senior Director of Online Learning.

 Essential Duties and Responsibilities

75% Creation of Engaging Learning Experiences

  • Coach and support faculty during the course development process on the creation of course materials, assessment techniques, appropriate use of technologies and best practices; which could include text, graphics, audio, video, animation and extended reality.
  • Assist faculty in finding zero-cost course materials, such as open educational resources (OER), library resources and other materials available at no additional cost for students.
  • Work closely with faculty and TrineOnline staff to develop high quality online learning activities and assessments using best practices of online course design.
  • Build collaborative working relationships with faculty and staff to ensure delivery of high-quality online courses and successfully complete tasks and projects through professional communication and constructive, yet sensitive feedback.
  • Provide excellent customer service, anticipating and exceeding the needs of our faculty and staff.
  • Research best practices of instructional design and develop tools and resources to assist faculty and staff with online learning projects, such as designing materials to support instructional effectiveness.

25% Continuous Improvement/Operational Activities

  • Assist with preparation of online master course templates for upcoming academic semesters and helps perform online course readiness checks.
  • Update online Master courses to meet TrineOnline quality standards, as needed.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of online delivery by sharing and implementing ideas, techniques and processes

Education and/or Experience

Required: Bachelor's degree required and five (5) years of combined work experience in instructional design, online education, mentoring faculty, content development, and multimedia production.

Preferred: Experience using Moodle or other Learning Management Systems (LMS) and knowledge of instructional technologies. Certification in Quality Matters or other online certification of quality control in distance delivery of educational content.
