VICE PRESIDENT FOR UNIVERSITY ADVANCEMENT

The Vice President for University Advancement is Trine’s chief development officer, reports directly to the President and is a member of the President’s cabinet. Direct reports include the Development Office Coordinator, the Executive Director of Advancement, two Major Gift Officers, the Director of Annual Giving, the Director of Donor Relations and Stewardship, the Director of Alumni Relations, the Director of Advancement Services, the Phonathon Manager, and a Gift Entry Officer. In the Fall of 2013, Trine kicked off a $75 million capital campaign, later expanded to $125 million and concluded in the spring of 2021 having raised over $137 million, focusing on capital improvement projects, endowment and the annual Trine fund.

  • Embracing a campus culture that is aspirational, flexible, and focused on constant programmatic improvement
  • Working closely in tandem with the new President to shape and direct Trine’s exciting future
  • Developing and implementing a vision for the Advancement division that will keep pace with the rapid growth of the University
  • Seamlessly joining a highly successful senior leadership team who are focused on sustained growth and continuous improvement
  • Traveling extensively to engage with current and potential donors to increase philanthropic giving to the University
  • Leading and managing a strong, committed and hard-working team to ensure they have the resources they need to continue their success an fulfill their full potential
  • Building off the success of the recent Invest in Excellence comprehensive campaign, define and lead the next comprehensive campaign that will focus on expanding the endowment
  • Increasing and supporting the engagement of the academic leadership, deans, and faculty in fund raising and other external resources development
  • Substantially expand the donor base beyond the current focus on key friends of the University and its loyal alumni
  • Strategically and substantively increasing alumni engagement, particularly with a growing base of younger alumni who will soon be prepared to ready to become key donors and friends of the University
  • Enhancing other opportunities for external resource development, including foundation and corporate giving

Qualifications:

The Trine University community seeks a Vice President for University Advancement who models innovative leadership and an empowering management style, strong advocacy for the University externally and the Advancement division internally, and excellent communication skills. Trine’s next Vice President for University Advancement is/has:

Professional:

  • A talented, seasoned advancement leader with strong leadership and management skills, with a proven track record of quantifiable success in higher education or related fields
  • A demonstrated commitment to innovation and sustainable and continuous growth
  • A strategic thinker who can develop and implement a vision for the Advancement division and leverage the opportunities that stem from that strategic vision
  • Demonstrated personal success in major donor cultivation and solicitation, with a goal of increasing overall donor participation
  • Experience with corporation and foundation relations
  • Experience with planning and executing successful comprehensive campaigns
  • Demonstrated success in working with boards and foundations comprised of prominent corporate and community volunteers and alumni
  • The knowledge of and ability to implement, technology – particularly social media and Raiser’s Edge – to promote the University and support data-informed decision-making
  • An understanding and ability to promote the core academic mission of the University and enable cooperation between the Advancement division and the other functional areas
  • The ability to position the President to maximize his potential as a fundraiser for the University
  • A Master’s degree, with a terminal degree preferred
