Garrett woman donates half a million dollars to Trine's T. Furth Center for Performing Arts

April 29, 2014

Judy A. Morrill, president of Electric Motors & Specialties in Garrett, Ind., has donated a half a million dollars to Trine University for its new T. Furth Center for Performing Arts.

The Morrill Concert Balcony and Presidential Suite in the Ryan Concert Hall are named in her honor to recognize her avid support of Trine and her generosity.

Trine transformed the historic First Christian Church of Angola into the T. Furth Center for Performing Arts, resulting in a place where the community can enjoy the arts, humanities and music. The church was built in 1910 and has been a historic icon in the Angola community and region. The renovation brings new life to the brick structure.

"Trine is grateful for the generous support from Judy," said Earl D. Brooks II, Ph.D., Trine president. "Supporters and friends, like Judy, have enabled us to take on and complete such an enormous project. We know the community is excited about the new center, and I invite everyone to attend the dedication on May 2."

The $7.8 million project included complete renovation and an addition to the Greek Revival-style building. Work began in March 2013 and a dedication ceremony is set for 11:30 a.m. Friday, May 2. Everyone is invited to the event in Ryan Concert Hall of the new facility, 500 W. Maumee St., just a couple blocks west of the circle.

During the dedication, Trine will recognize and honor the numerous donors and supporters of the T. Furth Center. That evening, Lee Greenwood, country singing star and Grammy winner, will perform a private concert at the new center to help celebrate the opening.

Morrill is known for supporting her hometown of Garrett. Her contributions have been numerous, and include the recreation center, which is named in her honor, and two library expansions. Additionally, Morrill has given financial support for the fire stations and other community projects in the towns of Orland and Corunna.
